RAID Technologies

RAID Technology: The HDDs must be same model and same size. (If the size is different, it is setup according the lowest HDD.) The RAID settings should be set on the computer BIOS settings. And the mainboard must support RAID.

RAID 0: At least 2 HDD are needed! Speed! > If you have 2 HDD; it looks you have 1 HDD.

RAID 1: At least 2 HDD are needed! Data Security! > If you have 2 HDD; it looks you have 1 HDD.

RAID 5: At least 3 HDD are needed! Speed&Data Security! > If you have 3 HDD; it looks you have 2 HDD.

RAID 6: At least 4 HDD are needed! Speed&Data Security! > If you have 4 HDD; it looks you have 2 HDD. Slower than RAID 5.

RAID 10 (1+0): At least 4HDD are needed! Speed&Data Security! > If you have 4 HDD; it looks you have 2 HDD.

There are some software to setup RAID technologies. In my school, it was Avago MegaRAID Storage Manager.

If a HDD is broken, you can replace it as simple as unplug and plug it back. You may need to rebuild the new hdd. It may take 1-2 days.
